Bringing birds, bees & butterflies back to our beautiful neighborhood.

Where did our pollinators go & why do we need them?

Pollinators are the bees, butterflies, beetles, moths, insects, and birds that help plants reproduce. Some plants & pollinators have evolved “lock & key” with other another over millennia, meaning that they specifically require each other to complete their lifecycles. Native pollinators are massively important to the agricultural and ecological health of the state of Louisiana. Without them, we wouldn’t have the foods & landscapes we love.

Due to habitat loss, pesticide use, and introduced diseases, our pollinators are disappearing.

Providing a wildflower-rich habitat is the most significant step we can take to support these essential animals. By adding native plants to our yards, we can help support birds and wildlife, increase a block’s ability to withstand flood waters, and reduce the urban heat island effect.

Native plants are inexpensive and more easily maintained than non-native plants with increased resilience to freeze and drought. They do not require insecticides or other harmful chemicals and their roots stabilize the ground, leading to cleaner streets & sidewalks and decreased potholes, sinkholes & overall erosion.
